Buhari has created many enemies that will make it difficult for him to win second term in 2019, says Gumi

Fiery Islamic cleric, Sheik Ahmad Gumi, has said that it will be extremely difficult for President Muhammadu Buhari to win the 2019 presidential election because he has surrounded himself with many enemies.

The cleric said this in an interview with New Telegraph when asked if the president can win the 2019 presidential election.

His words, "It depends on who he is contest against. As Muslims, we don’t predict because we don’t know the future, only God knows the future. But, from my observation of what I am seeing and hearing from people, it would be very difficult for him to win. It will be extremely difficult for him because he has made many enemies along the line. Within his party, many people are now contending with how they were used and thrown away.

"Also, most of the APC governors are not popular because of how they treat people, Most of them are not popular in their states.

"The economy because of lack of economic plan, foresight, the right team and the unintentional action of the president in trying to curb corruption has been killed. His passion to fight corruption overrules everything. If you stop people from stealing I am okay, but don’t destroy Nigeria in the process. Let’s save the country first even if some people will take this or that, There is no problem about that because in the end, we will know how to manage them.

"Why he is doing that is because he knows anti=corruption is his selling point. Wherever he goes, he would say corruption, but fighting corruption the crude way; the way he is doing it, is what actually put the economy on its knees.

"I have been trying to make the President understand that nobody condones corruption, but that is not the way to do it. If you do it that way, I don’t know, maybe because of our illiteracy, underdevelopment and our nature make it possible that if you are governing Nigeria, you will have to develop unconventional means to satisfy the needs of the people.

"If you say, I have to be conventional hundred percent, you will fail. It is this unconventional ways that Buhari and co. to convince the people that that is absolute corruption and they employed all those unconventional means and the government is now suspended because you cannot solve some of the problems in the country conventionally.

"Look at the fuel queues; you cannot solve it conventionally. It has to be unconventionally and when you want to do that, people will say he is talking about corruption. Election is coming, if you say you will do your campaign conventionally, you will have problem. I heard someone say even APC used money for campaigns; is that not unconventional means.

"So, he was caught up within his own principles and the realities of politics. So, these are some of the things that will dampen him in 2019. Scaling this hurdle won’t be easy even as the talakawas too are divided.

"Yes, there are ardent followers, but maybe one third who are benefiting directly from the system because in any system, someone must benefit, the governors and their touts. At times you see so many people at rallies in Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi and some other places; this is what they are deceiving the president with. So, if he decides to contest, he is going to find it very tough; not like before because the people are going to judge him by his performance, and the record is not good.
