APC CRISIS: Scores injured as thugs sack APC factional congress in Ondo


Scores including journalists, member of House of Representatives and top politicians were injured as suspected thugs disrupted factional APC State Congress in Akure, the Ondo State capital. 

Among the injured were Sunkanmi Elujoba of Adaba FM, Damisi Ojo of The Nation, Bamigbola Gbolagunte of The Sun, Olumide Abudu of Radio Nigeria Positive FM. The Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ ), who is also correspondent of Thisday newspaper, James Sowole was beaten black and blue by the irate thugs.

Also injured were Bamidele Baderinwa representing Idanre/Ifedore federal constituency, Idowu Otetubi, Tolu Babaleye Leye Akinola and Bola Ilori, commissioner for Regional Intergration in Osun State

The venue of the factional congress, BTO Hall in Akure, was invaded by suspected political thugs who chased the party members out with various weapons and destroyed properties inside the hall.

Sunday Telegraph who witnessed the incident saw the suspected thugs fully loaded in six buses with different weapons and attacked the venue of the factional congress.

The action of the suspected thugs was despite the presence of National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the fact that the Okuelerinla Divisional Police State and Akure Area Command offices were less than 100 meters to the venue.

It was gathered that a number of those injured in the attack have been rushed to nearest hospital, including a candidate for the Publicity Secretary of the faction, Mr. Leye Akinola, who was macheted on his head.
