It's a shame youths are called lazy by a government that failed to revive textile industry — Workers

The National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGWN) yesterday, demanded that the Federal Government immediately revives the nation’s textile industry, to check growing youth unemployment in the country.

Speaking in Lagos, NUTGWN’s deputy national general  secretary, Mr. Bello Ismail, said the Federal government should build more textile industries, adding that  they are demanding that government does the right thing to revive the textile industry.

He said: “To do the right thing is to revisit the textile and garment industry policy which focuses on the clear measures that will accelerate revival of the textile sector.

“It’s time the Federal Government should revisit the textile and garment policy which focuses on clear measures that will accelerate the revival of our sector in terms of what should be done  in the electricity sector as well as what should be done to eradicate smuggling in order to strengthen made-in- Nigeria goods.

“The policy also states clearly what should be done in terms of patronage of made in Nigeria goods, especially made-in Nigeria fabrics.

“We can change the fortune of this country by buying made-in Nigeria goods. If for all their uniforms government agencies are patronizing made-in Nigeria fabrics, the current unemployment level would have gone down significantly,” he also said.
