Recent killings in Plateau State is no longer tolerable - US react

The United States (US) government has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of killings especially in the Middle Belt region.

While condemning the killings in rural communities in the zone, the US said that the recent violence that led to the killing of several people was no longer tolerable.

In a statement by the State Department spokesman, Heatheir Nauet, Washington said that Buhari must rise and put the situation under control.

The US on Tuesday said: “The United States condemns in the strongest terms the killing of civilians and destruction of property in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region over the weekend.

“We are concerned by the recent increase in armed violence against civilians and called all political and community leaders to lend their voices to peace and to work together to find lasting solutions to these rural conflicts.

“We join President Buhari and others in sending our deepest condolences to the affected communities, and in the desire to the perpetrators brought to justice and to prevent further violence.”
