SouthEast students adopt Buhari for second term

The National Executive Council of the South East Students Union (SESU) has adopted President Muhammadu Buhari as its candidate in the February 2019 presidential election.

SESU said that its decision was prompted by the achievements the President had recorded in his three years of office.

In a press statement issued on Sunday by SESU National President, Comrade Okechukwu Chigbo, he listed Buhari’s achievements to include effective war on corruption, reduction in the menace of insecurity, stability in the economy, improvement in the wellbeing of most Nigerians.

Others, according to the group, are the home grown feeding programme for pupils in primary schools, diversification of rail transport system, increase in the basic minimum wage for Nigerian workers and monthly allowances for NYSC members.

Chigbo added that massive housing schemes through mortgage acquisition and equitable distribution of resources to all regions of the country were other reasons for the endorsement.
According to him, the union has proposed October 27, 2019 to hold a South East Zonal Rally in Enugu, to officially adopt the President as its preferred candidate in the Presidential election with over one million delegates expected to attend.

He said: “We can attest to the fact that previous administration in this country faced a lot of challenges which were inherited by the Buhari-led administration.

“Therefore, we need total restoration of our dear country back to her lost glory. For us to achieve this we need a leader whose words are his bond, a man who puts character above wealth.

“Nigeria needs a leader who has a strong will and never to lose his individuality in a crowd. The giant of Africa deserves a leader who makes no compromise with wrong.

“We need a man whose ambitions are never confined to any selfish desires, a man that will always be honest in small things and in great things.

“Our great country needs a President who will not say he does something because every other person does it; a man true to his friends in the moments of joy and sorrow as well.

“We need a leader who accommodates Nigerians in prosperity as well as in adversity. We deserve a man that is not ashamed to stand for the truth, even when it is unpopular.

“Our great country needs a man who does not believe that shrewdness, cunning and hard headedness are the best qualities for winning success.

“Nigerians deserves a leader with foresight, a vision, mission and a sense of purpose. We need a builder, a rejuvenator, a facilitator and a man who puts the progress and advancement of our dear country above his personal gains.

“We need a God fearing leader, a shepherd, a man to bring our dreams and aspirations to reality. We desire a leader with a large heart that accommodates all and sundry, including the opposition in governance.

“We care for a leader that sees leadership as service to humanity not a means to acquire wealth. We need a man with trusted personality,” Chigbo said.
