Buhari never said 40 million Nigerians are mad — Adesina react

The spokesperson of President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr. Femi Adeshina, has denied that Buhari didn’t say 40 million Nigerians are mad.

On his official Twitter handle, Adesina described the news as fake, warning Nigerians to beware of those spreading it.

He said: “Evil minds claim President Buhari says 40 million Nigerians are mad. Fake news. They now play with the mental health of people to gain political advantage. Beware of them.”

Our correspondent gathered that the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Abdulaziz Abdullahi, actually made a similar statement not President Buhari.

The PS was quoted as speaking at the mental health action committee and stakeholders workshop in Abuja.

He said: “In Nigeria, an estimated 20 to 30 percent of our populations are believed to suffer from mental disorders. This is a very significant number considering Nigeria has an estimated population of over 200 million.”
