Akwa Ibom: APC rejects Guber results, claims victory in 26 LG

The Akwa Ibom chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the results of governorship and House of Assembly elections held on Saturday across the 31 local government areas of the state.

The party specifically contended the declaration of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Governor Udom Emmanuel by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as winner of the governorship election.

The INEC, through the state collation officer for the election, Professor Faraday Osasere Orumwense, declared that Emmanuel polled a total 519, 712 to defeat the APC candidate, Obong Nsima Ekere who scored 171,978 votes.

But the state chairman of the APC, Mr. Ini Okopido in a press briefing yesterday in Uyo rejected the results as announced by INEC.

In fact, he claimed that the APC won the election in 26 council areas of the state, insisting that the party scored more than the PDP in polling units.

”The result of the governorship and state house of assembly elections in the state, as obtained from our agents across the state, clearly shows that the All Progressives Congress won in 26 out of the 31 local government areas of the state.

”The result showed a remarkable closeness in the number of votes polled by each of the two major political parties. That closeness was even possible because of the amount of underhand tactics of the PDP”.

Okopido accused the PDP of engaging in multiple voting, vote buying, deployment of violence of unprecedented dimension, arson and killings and in most areas snatching of ballot boxes, and manifest manipulation and non-use of the card reader machines to achieve their predetermined result.

”Therefore, our party rejects the sham and fictitious result as announced by the INEC in Akwa Ibom state, as it was contrived, manipulated and concocted to suit the unholy alliances between the commission and the PDP.

INEC resident electoral commissioner, Mike Igini in his reaction denied conniving with the PDP or any other party to rig the elections.

Igini said the governorship/house of assembly elections conducted by the commission under his watch was credible and fair, adding that the results announced reflected the true wishes of Akwa Ibom electorates.
